Five thrones,
one journey

Two sit within a short drive of each other in Punjab. The others are days apart — Anandpur in the Shivaliks, Patna on the Ganges, Nanded on the Godavari.

Sri Akal Takht Sahib 1

Sri Akal Takht Sahib

Amritsar, Punjab

The Throne of the Timeless One stands directly opposite Sri Harimandir Sahib, raised by Guru Hargobind Ji in 1606. Where the Harimandir is the seat of the spirit, the Akal Takht is the seat of temporal authority — the two facing each other across the parkarma is the whole of Miri and Piri set in stone. Every Panj Takht yatra begins or ends here.

Takht Sri Patna Sahib 2

Takht Sri Patna Sahib

Patna, Bihar

Guru Gobind Singh Ji was born here in 1666 and spent the first years of his life in the city. Guru Nanak Dev Ji and Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji both came to Patna before him, so the sangat here is among the oldest anywhere. We run it as a 3 Nights / 4 Days yatra covering Gurudwara Sri Patna Sahib and Sri Harimandir Sahib.

Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib 3

Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib

Anandpur Sahib, Punjab

A birthplace of the Khalsa. It was here on March 30th, 1699 that Guru Gobind Singh baptized 5 Sikhs with amrit stirred with his Khanda, called them his Five Beloved Ones and gave them the name ‘Singh’. He then humbly bowed before the Five Beloved Ones and asked them to initiate Him into the Khalsa Brotherhood.

Takht Sri Hazoor Sahib 4

Takht Sri Hazoor Sahib

Nanded, Maharashtra

Takhat Sachkhand Sri Hazur Abchalnagar Sahib, half a kilometre from the Godavari. It is the place from where the tenth Guru rose to heaven along with his horse Dilbag, and where Guruship was conferred on the Guru Granth Sahib. The present building was constructed by Maharaja Ranjit Singh in the early 1830s. Reached by air in 1N/2D, or by the Sachkhand Express in 5N/6D.

Takht Sri Damdama Sahib 5

Takht Sri Damdama Sahib

Talwandi Sabo, Punjab

Guru Gobind Singh Ji rested here after the battles of Anandpur and Chamkaur — damdama means a resting place. Over the months that followed he dictated the definitive recension of the Guru Granth Sahib to Bhai Mani Singh. For that reason it is called Guru ki Kashi, the seat of learning.

One creator. Truth is the name. The doer of all. Without fear, without hatred. Beyond time, unborn, self-existent. Known by the Guru’s grace.

How the circuit runs

Ways to travel it

Most families do it in stages over a few years. Some do the whole thing in one go.

Option one The full circuit

All five in a single journey, flying the long legs to Nanded and Patna and driving the Punjab stretch. The fastest way to complete it.

Option two By train throughout

Slower, considerably cheaper, and the way most sangat has always travelled. The Sachkhand Express alone carries you 27 hours to Nanded.

Option three Punjab first

Akal Takht, Kesgarh Sahib and Damdama Sahib in one short yatra, leaving Patna and Nanded for a second trip.

Option four Join at any Takht

If you have already had darshan at some of them, we build the yatra around only the ones left to you.
